Advanced Surgical Care

If your cat or dog needs surgery, the experienced doctors and staff at South Baton Rouge Animal Hospital will do all they can to keep your pet safe and comfortable before, during, and after the procedure.

The doctors at South Baton Rouge Animal Hospital perform a comprehensive spectrum of both routine and complex surgeries, including:

  • Orthopedic surgeries—fracture repairs, luxating patella correction, cruciate ligament repair
  • Soft tissue—surgeries that don’t involve bones
  • Spay/neuter
  • Mass removals
  • Major abdominal surgeries
  • Chest surgeries

Pre-Anesthesia Testing

One of our doctors will conduct a thorough physical exam prior to your pet’s surgery. As an added precaution, we require pre-anesthesia bloodwork to check for any underlying condition that could result in complications.

During Your Pet’s Procedure

Your pet’s surgery will be performed in one of our state-of-the art surgical suites on a heated surgery table to help your pet maintain an appropriate body temperature. Our licensed veterinary technicians will monitor your pet’s heart rate, blood pressure, and temperature throughout the surgery.

Post-Surgery Care

Following the procedure, your pet’s doctor will call you to fully discuss the surgery and answer your questions. We will send your pet home with any post-op pain medications that are necessary as well as instructions for home care.

Surgery—even routine spays and neuters—can be stressful for pets and their owners. Please know that we will do all we can to ensure a successful outcome for your cat or dog. Please call us if you have any questions about our surgical capabilities.
